Once in a while you hear something or read about something that really upsets your personal "Applecart." A fact or bit of information that really sends you reeling for what ever reason regarding the Little Big Horn Battle. Tonight, while perusing Dr. Strange's book, I came across the following:
"In yet another polar contrast to Keogh, DeRudio was a very unpopular officer, with only Benteen befriending him. Both Thomas French and Myles Moylan had low opinions of the Italian officer. french ridiculed DeRudio and his fellow conspirators for their failure to succeed in the plot against Napoleon." P.88I thought it very odd that an effort to remove a tyrant (regardless of success or failure)would be ridiculed and, a personality like Benteen would over look this failure ( when others did not) as Benteen's personality appeared to be very critical of others.
Do you all have bits of "surprising" information similar to this that you would like to share?

The other part of this polar contrast is that Derudio and Keogh's foreign war activities were on opposite sides. That was something that really nailed my attention and then I put it together with those other things.

Incredible! Two men fighting on the other side of the world in opposing sides find themselves, together, fighting against a common enemy;one to live and one to die!

Another thing i did not know is that Terry may have prepared himself for any eventuality when he assigned Custer's orders. By giving specific orders than augmenting them with complete discretion of choice two things occur. If Custer wins it is because he followed Terry's instructions.
If he looses, he was indiscreet and did to much thinking on his own merit. Either way Terry comes out relatively unscathed.
