A minor outbreak occurred on the Crow reservation in the fall of 1887. i thought was really surprising considering all that the Crow people had done for the army in the Custer battle. I guess its true when they say yesterdays friend is tomorrow's enemy.
"Agent Henry E. Williamson had needlessly antagonized and alienated the Crows in a series of hasty and ill advised attempts to force their obedience to to his orders.
Trouble erupted when when Williamson ordered the arrest of Wraps-Up-His-Tail and his followers as a result of their successful horse-stealing raid against the ancient Blackfoot enemy. Wraps-Up-His-Tail, or Sword Beaver (I think i prefer Sword Beaver), was both feared and respected by the Crows, who were convinced of his mastery of awesome medicine powers.
The obstreperous element among the Crows shot up the agency as an act of defiance. The agent panicked and sent for the troops to protect the agency. A demand was made for sword Beaver. When the Crows did not produce him, the first Cavalry advance on the village."
the result of this was the death of one soldier, Broad Sword being shot in cold blood by a Crow Policeman, and the agent being replaced. Once again, not trying to understand the Indian by non-caring whites ended in death that could have been avoided.

Unfortunately the mistreatment and disrespect by whites toward native Americans is a historical and, present day phenomenon, that is astounding. Racism only thrives when the individual being scrutinized is of a different color;makes it a lot easier that way and no brain power is required.
