All the choices seem great. I just have to add my two cents and recommend "They Died with Custer" by Scott, Willey and Melissa A. Connor.
This book discusses the age, size, and ethnic back ground of the members of the 7Th., who died on the field. While some of the information is a little technical, it still makes for a good read.

Having had the opportunity to actually see a deceased person return from the beyond, I have spent a great deal of my time reading of the personal experiences of others. Joe, is that something you would care to tell us about?

Melani,
after years of dubious stares and subtle smirks I have learned to be rather closed mouth about this subject. I have no idea why I slipped up here but, slipped I did so here goes. Around 25 years ago, while asleep, my ex-wife and I received a telephone call in the middle of the night. Being closest to the phone I picked up the receiver only to hear a strange, male voice ask for my wife. Being to groggy with sleep to protest, I handed the phone over and fell, heavily back to sleep.
Moments later (I think) I was re-awaken by a very distraught wife who informed me that her Aunt had was the victim of a shooting in some dive bar in North Carolina. The caller also stated that although in a critical condition, the lady was still alive. He also stated that he would keep the family informed of her condition.
The lady in question lived an erratic life style of dubious distinction and so this bad news was not totally unexpected to me. Needlessly to say, my wife was certainly up-set. We mutually decided to exchange our positions in bed so that she would be nearest the telephone on the night stand. this left my laying upon the right side of the bed facing the bedroom hallway some ten feet distant and, illuminated by a medium size chandelier.
After drifting off back to sleep, I was re-awaken still a third time by an irresistible feeling of being watched by someone in the vicinity of the hallway. Peering through the darkness of our room towards the shadowy light in the hallway I saw what appeared to be a gray mist hovering just below the chandelier light some 10 feet off the floor. To my utter amazement, the mist seemed to become much thicker, voluminous and pulsating.
My eyes looked upon an object that was very real to me while, the whole time, my mind screamed, "disregard! Its not real. It can,t be." Its not very macho to admit that I was terrified at this point but I was. I couldn't call out, I couldn't move, and I couldn't believe what I was seeing. Without warning and further ado, an image formed within the confines of the mysterious cloud. An Image of the aunt who had just be shot!
Such a vision I had never seen before simply because it was unearthly, eerie, and totally breath taking. Although it was definitely an image of my wife's aunt, the expression upon her face was indescribable but, I will try.
She smiled but, a smile such as this was like no other. She seemed sublimely enraptured and enjoying a sweet peace unknown to we who reside on this planet. Although in her sixties her hair was darker, skin smooth and soft, her face that of one in her thirties. her soft gaze said so many thing simultaneously, the most obvious being One of peace, joy, and true blessedness.
Never had I been so moved by an image before or since. The unexpected and shrill ringing of the telephone tore me away from the picture of love before me as it suddenly vanished with the ringing of the phone. It was the same caller advising my wife that her aunt had just transpired.

Well, the world as we know it is only a product of what our sences say that it is. Way more to it then "meets the eye" so to speak. When I was taking care of my aunt who was dying of cancer, she woke up and said she had a nice talk with her friend Millie. I thought that was curious because I know Millie hadn't dropped by. I called her up, but got no answer. My mother went to her house, and found her dead on the kitchen floor. No one knew that she had passed on. So when I hear tales of a supernatural event, I listen....

Not at all cutter. Your's wasn't the only one. And I'm not criticizing anyone. In fact the smile indicates otherwise. I was enjoying it. And no, i'm not saying by my remark that I don't believe. I was just being silly. Sorry if you feel it was in bad taste or was offended by it. And actually, it wasn't off topic...

No big deal, again, understood. I had to google "taps" to know what you were referring to. Not everything is found in books, at least that's what I like to believe. Anyway, no harm, no foul.

Well, now I didn't think of that. I still enjoy watching those old flicks. But somehow TAPS and Mysterquest and a few of the others aren't too bad. Sometimes one has to wonder about the noises and the EVP's, like whether they are contrived or not, because they don't seem to catch most of the 'images" on screen, but for some reason they seem to get the voices coming from the 'limbo'. But I guess its like the LBH itself. You either believe or you don't. Let me put it this way, you wouldn't catch me in some of those places they go...after dark!... Well, not without the Ghostbuster's anyway

I am seriously considering purchasing a book regarding the Reno Court of Inquiry. I currently have the condensed version by Graham but, feel a need for the complete package. Can anyone make a good recommendation for me, please.

The Battlefield Edition that the park service has at the Visitor Center Bookstore is the one I have. One used to be able to contact the "bookstore" directly and order things from it. Now it seems one has to go through some kind of chain system to get there, don't know how that works. But I would imagine if you'd contact the Park Headquarters (406) 638-2621 and ask them or Visitor Information (406) 638-3217 they may be able to give you the phone number so that you could order it directly from them. They also used to have an email address that you could email them. The only other thing I can think of is try the Garry Owen Store and Museum if all else fails, they may have a copy of it. I didn't see one when I was there, but they may have one by now. Good hunting.

I've got a paperback of the Nichols version. You can most certainly find just about anything at bookfinder.com.
