I,m in the library browsing and you all will never guess what I found. A very interesting book entitled, "Elizabeth Bacon Custer and The making of a Myth" Shirley A. Leckie.
I have not had enough time to peruse it but, what I've seen thus far is interesting as it gives quite a bit of information about the General that was completely unknown to me. I'll keep you guys posted and render my opinion regarding its value as soon as I can.

Just finished reading "Give Me Eighty Men - Women and the Myth of the Fetterman Fight" by Shannon Smith. It's a fairly small book but worth the read, for anyone who is interested in this battle/fight. Smith contends that Fetterman was a competent officer who was just doing what he and Carrington had planned to do and that it was probably Grummond, leading the cavalry detachment, who made the rash decisions that got the command in trouble. Fetterman was just trying to save/support him. It's interesting in that Vaughn proposes a similar scenario in his book "Indian fights: New Facts on Seven Encounters".

If you want to read a balanced book, both pro and con, regarding Custer "Touched by Fire - Louise Barnett - is a must read. It defines Custer as an all to human youth who achieved glory and fame early in life and became bitter and distraught when the accolades that submerged him in honor began to wan in latter years.

Bitter and distraught are strong words. No battle, no victory, no victory no glory, no glory, no honor, no honor, no worth? Could be I guess, makes sense in a way. For myself, I think Custer had a little more to him then that, not saying he didn't think it. Am curious what was said about Libby...

The first site was completely unknown to me but, oh brother! The second site seems to be a confornation of individuals who presume much and attempted to confirm it by a pseudo-psychic analysis.
