A Masterpiece! Perhaps. I think the highlight for me was that actors act the fictional parts of some war movies at a time when the real life stories of the men involved would have been better served to fill a fictional void that didn't happen in history. Most of those WWII movies for example would have been better telling the true stories of the men involved than trying to invent something that wasn't even close. Otto Preminger did some good things as did many of the other producer/directors of their day. But when they really had the chance to tell the soldier stories about the units they were making films about, it would have been a whole lot better to have looked back now and not wondered, was it true or not? And just one example was the wing commander C. Heston portrayed in the movie Midway. There was a real person there whose story would have been a whole hell of a lot better to have been told than the garbage its producer dreampt up. And now? Now, we'll never know, and that's a shame, as he's likely dead or doesn't remember anything any more if he is alive. Now all we have is a few memoirs by Tom Brokaw, maybe his work will be all there ever will be of those whose stories really needed to be told in a day and age when the media could have told it. And what of Korea, Vietnam? Media is all about sensationalism, selling without preserving history, when it should wake up and realize the terrific opportunities to be gained by telling the truth about those who've placed their services In Harms Way for their country and preserving those memoirs to film. No not a documentary, a movie because what most of those guys did should be remembered. There was one movie that brings back memories it was about the 4 Sullivan bros. who served in the Pacific on the same ship and all went down with their ship. They don't make movies like that anymore and that's a damn shame.
