I don't know why, but I simple have not found a reference that tells me what (exactly) Weir could see from Weir's Point. How much of the village could be seen from that point? I believe Custer was spotted (by Reno's troops) on the Reno Ridge a bit down river from Reno's enclave. What could Custer see from that point?

Joe, the impression I got from from "To Hell With Honor" is that Custer was only able to see the southern most portion of the village. Hope that helps. ;D

Thanks, that's about what I figured. I wonder if Custer took a trip to "Sharpshooter's Hill" as well. From there he would have seen more of the village than from Weir's Point.
For example, from that position he may have observed three, separate billows of dust;one headed south (warriors to confront Reno, one smaller one headed east (to pick up more ponies from the herd, and one headed north (women and children).
This information would have immediately let Custer know that Benteen needed to be recalled (hence the famous note) and everything was before him.
Under this premise, Custer's "attack" at ford "B" was no more than a feint to cover Reno in the timber which worked to perfection. Unfortunately Reno fled with an insignificant loss. Only in abject flight to the hills did most of his men (who died in that charge) lose their lives.
