Well the New Year passed as usual for us very quietly while the rest of the world seemed ot go ga-ga over the notion of its passing. New Years day once again presented itself with the same treats, TV parades, of which after one views them for the umpteenth time they all seem the same anyway. Then there's the bowl games, and if one doesn't have a favorite team to watch, what's the point anyway. I would have, probably should have passed the cup of holiday cheer at the mere thought of the above. But then some would say why not at the mere thought of the drink, let alone the reason to do it.
No quietly it passed for me, And perhaps it was best that it did. One does wish the best for all those whose cheer was justly rewarded and better still, those whose time was not wasted. At least there was the Three Stooges to keep me company, the Twilight Zone and a few other programs that helped make the holiday more cheerful.
A New Year has just dawned, a new day tomorrow will arise. And it is my hope that each one that follows for all, that everyone has a very Happy New Year.

We went to a nice New Year's Eve bluegrass concert, complete with party hats, noisemakers, and a bluegrass version of Auld Lang Syne. The local "coffeehouse" music venue has gone from a hole-in-the-wall to a specially designed space in downtown Berkeley--no more neighbors complaining about noise and parking, even though it was always acoustic folk music. The place has lost a bit of the homey feel it had before, but it holds more people, and the performers probably no longer get fleas from the dressing room.
We had New Year's brunch on the shores of lovely Lake Merritt (manmade lake in downtown Oakland), and then several hours of the favorite family activity--hanging out in a bookstore. Fortunately for me it was Barnes and Noble, which doesn't really have any LBH books, so I came away with only a paperback and a discounted kid's book on Abe Lincoln, and my bank account intact.
If it stops raining tomorrow, I can resume my riding lessons. The next time I ride the battlefield, I hope to spend more time concentrating on the scenery than on staying on the horse.
May the New Year be better for all of us than the old one!

I ate three black eyed peas (for good luck) and retired at 9:30 PM. It wasn't as drab a day of celebration as it would seem. Carole, Katie and I spent the day playing WII games (table tennis) and singing Beatles songs on the computer. We enjoyed ourselves very much.

Black eye'd peas? Must be one of them Sooner rituals passed along by Switzer of something? Couldn't help but to notice that they aren't as good as they used to be, even with Bradford, barely escaped that bowl game, they did. Now you take them Corndodgers, now there's a team ~ shutout! Maybe Stoops should dig a little into Switzer's playbook and bring back a little "bone" to chew on instead of all those "black eyed" peas. ;D

Partner, there's another side to that "coin." To have even arrived to the Sun Bowl after the unbelievable amount of injuries to the team is phenomenal. Injuries, I dare say, to the elite player group, not the subs and walk ons. Can you imagine where they would have been had they had a decent kicker? how about 10-3. I just hope that the latest boob (#43) gets his walking papers. Ordinarily I'm a patient and understanding man but, come on!

Well ole number 43, if he isn't given another chance, his career is kaput, out the window, fini under Stoops. Personally, I don't see Stoops, stooping that low, pun intended. Heck he hasn't even given that guy a scholarship yet because he was a "walk-on"; ya think he will now?
Now when it comes to a "walk-on" programs, there isn't a better one in the country, and one known for it, than dear old NU. Why they've produced former Husker walk-on greats like Jeff and Joel Makovicka, Jeff Jamrog and Jason Peter. That last one, even you should remember!

Hmmmmm, didn't Ole NU have a recent kicking problem that cost them aplenty??? With the utmost civility, I can only remind you that next year Nebraska will be discombobulated with the aid of our new kicker, whoever he may be.

ummmm hummm.... another number 43, I presume, and another walk-on great... great at what, is what one has to determine.
As for NU's kicker, go figure, the guy kicked the darn thing outta the stands all year, has been doing that every since he got here and the one time in his career he could have proven himself valuable beyond all compare and would have made Pro Scouts not think twice about selecting him, and what does he do? Yup, he decides to become a Longhorn fan and boot that darn thing out of bounds like some kind of rookie. And the first time in his career here at NU that I can ever remember him doing that. So you tell me, a fluke or a 'nuke'? And I know it wasn't "jitters", that guy is so cool and collected that ice would flow down his shoe and assist him in kicking the ball from the 50 if he had to. It's too bad one couldn't say the same about ole number 43 though isn't it? From the looks of what he did, i'd say it wasn't ice in his shoe, would you?

It has taken me this long to get back with you after Nebraska demolished us. the pain in my heart has finally subside enough to write about one of the saddest days of my life. ever the gentleman, I will not delve into the many injuries OU suffered this year. let it suffice to say that in 2010, we will demolished the "cornhuskers." By the way, how did they earn that sobriquet? How do you husk a corn? PS I am in a financial position to wager you that my boys will come through this year. As long as the wager does not exceed 1 million Lobania rupees or 35 cents. PPS If you hesitate to respond to this challenge I will understand. The way "BO" dresses on the side line during games is depressing enough.
