The classic television series Fantasy Island is being remade, courtesy of producer Mark Burnett and Sony Pictures TV, as a reality competition show.
The competition will take place at a resort hotel on an exotic island [[Kualoa Ranch, Oahu Hawaii very near where the origional TV series was shot... see www.kualoa.com/ and click on "fish pond and garden tours". The Pond was where "da Plane" landed and on its shores stood the "hotel"]], and will follow 12 contestants on their quest to become the next real-life Mr. Roark (the owner of the island in the original series) and win a dream job at the hotel. Guests will arrive on the island each week, in search of their fantasy (a dream wedding, a gig with their rock heroes), and the contestant who fails to make good on the fantasy will be kicked off.
Fantasy Island originally ran on ABC from 1978 to 1984.
“Fantasy Island has all of the elements of a hit series,” said Burnett in a statement (via Broadcasting & Cable), “an exotic location, dream fulfillment, competition and most of all, emotional story telling. Not only is the competition exciting, but the stories of the people whose fantasies are being fulfilled will be extremely compelling.”
Burnett has produced more than a thousand hours of television, including Survivor, The Apprentice, and Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?
