The Navaho's fell under the Athabaskan nation, They lived up in the mountain sides and pastured their animals in the valleys. They were a friendly people who lived all through Texas, Arizona, and norther Mexico.
Apparently, they never painted or tattooed their faces. As soon as they could walk their children, boys and girls, were taught the use of the lasso. A Navajo boy of tens years was capable of lassoing a running dog.
Their home life was placid and seldom was cruelty and harsh words experienced among families. Quite a contradiction of Hollywood productions of the typical Indian.
Interestingly, they cared but little for intoxicating liquors although they, themselves, manufactured a very strong alcoholic beverage from the maguay plant and from bear grass. It had a burnt flavor that quickly produced intoxication but, quickly wore off.
Hmmmm, could use a little tad of that concoction myself!
