A bit of an explanation here for the members. sonofacavalryman and I go way back folks. We met up on a forum right after it had started up, good lord it must have been in the late 90's early 00's, and posted there together for a long time. My name on the forum was, twomoons. Son... here, well he wasn't as shy as I was, and posted under his real name, both first and last. When I made contact with him, thats how I identified myself, so he would know who I was.

Cutter, I guess it might be more appropriate that the Crow got their land back, since it was theirs before the Sioux kicked them off of it.

Melanie, are you the same lady I met at the Best Western hotel in Billings last year at the LBHA seminar when a bunch of us were sitting around the pool at night? Ring a bell?

I'm new here, being referred by one of you from another board. I belong to several boards and had posted for years, but hardly any anymore due to all the in-fighting and such. Although I've lived in California for 44 years, I was born and raised in Texas and once a Texan, always a Texan. I'm very interested in the Indian Wars and have been fortunate enough to have visited most major and many minor locations of the fights in Montana and Wyoming. I'm looking forward to seeing how this board goes.

Welcome Caltexian,
You are more than welcome to share your experiences here, especially with photos and tales of your visits to the various battlefields you've been to. As you can see, I've tried to include all of the plains Indian wars, in one way or another. And no matter who you are, which we feel is your perfect right to privacy as to whom you personally are, whether or not you choose to share that information, is first and foremost, your business and not ours. We, the management team here, will never require anyone to personally identify themselves in an official capacity. There is, no need for it. As they say the pen is mightier than the sword. And improper behavior will not be tolerated, and by that, you do know what I mean from your experiences.
Again we welcome you, and invite you to participate in any of the forum areas. Right now we are trying to establish a newsletter format in the "Cavalry Journal". We request that you do not post there. However, if you wish to submit an article to it, just pm me, and I'm sure your request will be granted. And any member is more than welcome to submit an article to it, anyone. We usually post to it towards the end of the month, so far, so the next issue is forthcoming.
Relax, post and enjoy, no one is here to rain on your parade as long as everyone is civil and respectful to one another. And as i've been reminded of so many times, that's my job, that's what i'm here for. And I assure you, neither me or Joe will fall off the job on that one. We may not be Johnny on the spot with it as our daily lives and schedules don't always allow us the luxury. But rest assured, it wont be ignored, pushed under the carpet as so much mold to smell up the whole house. Once is enough, and twice - too many.
Dennis

caltexian, welcome aboard. How's this- " the cheyenne fought the battle, the sioux got the credit, and the Crow got their land back"?

There ya go, Cutter. One thing I always found contradictory about the Indians, whom I sympathize with for being pushed off their lands by the white folks, said they couldn't understand the whites and how could anyone "own the land." Maybe they were talking about owning it via written deeds of ownership; yet whether they wanted to admit it or not, they owned land, territory via survival of the strongest. Thanks for the welcome. Looking forward to this forum.

Hi, caltexian--
Yes--that was me and my friend Debbie, with keogh and Hank and Steve, visiting your Traveling Scholarly Frat Party. My favorite moment was Fred, pulling out his laptop and announcing, "Bill, I'm gonna kick your a**--I brought my NOTES!"

Melani, Fred is amazing. I think everything he's ever read on the battle, he has documented in some form on his laptop. I was being a smart-a#@ with him once and asked him a really off the wall question, and within ten seconds he had an answer. When he says he can pesonally name X number of Indians by name who fought at the LBH and their participation--and I'm talking about hundreds of them--he can really do it. We had so much fun last year. Fullsail shipped two cases of assorted mircobrews to our hotel in Billings, and after long hours in the field, we would wind up back at our hotel in Hardin or Buffalo or Sheridan drinking the best beer around and rehashing our days. We're planning next year's trip. Can't wait. Please say hello to your friend for me. I enjoyed talking to you ladies.
