Welcome, Clair. All you have to do is allot a certain amount of time for each forum--and then forget about that, it won't work anyway when you get involved in a thread!

Hi everybody,
I have just arrived having been invited on one of the other boards to try pushing the door open a little and see what's inside. One of the reasons I'm here is that I hope that there will be some interesting and invigorating discussions on the Custer part of the fight; a part of the battle that seems to generally get ignored on the other boards.
Whilst I can understand some of the reasons why this is---we only have hearsay and guesses on the part of the army--widely scattered artifacts that seem to make no sense--- and Indian accounts that may, for a variety of reasons---fear of reprisals, bad or inadequate translation, or plain cultural differences --seem to be somewhat skewed. If you add the anger on that some--many of you will know who I mean---display at the very idea that one might hazard a guess as to what might have happened once Custer passed the bluffs, then all discussion on this part of the battle seemed to have disappeared.
As you can probably see by now, once I get started I just tend to whither on, so I'll wind up with a short biog., I'm Irish but live in England, I'm an artist, which often means I'm too busy painting to get involved in the discussions as much as I would like, { those who feel curious, can see my rather odd Art work on my website, www,shanart.com } and I first got interested in this subject the moment saw that famous photo of Low Dog in a book my father bought me when I was around 7/8
So there we are, probably rather more information than most of you would want, so I'll just hello and, for the moment, goodbye.

Welcome Shan.
I am a bit predisposed at the moment to get into a lot of specifics. But I do want to welcome you to the forum, and let you know that what i've read so far that you've posted is excellent. Thanks for joining, and post away.
Dennis

Hi Shan,
Glad to see you here and, looking forward to hearing from you regularly. I agree with you regarding how Custer's portion of the battle seems to have been ignored. My guess is that many have relegated the General to the category of "Super-idiot" and have come to the conclusion that no answers may be found in studying his actions. On some forums, should you even intimate that Custer was not an utter buffoon you unknowingly invite a myriad of harsh criticisms and personal assassinations.
Here, you may experience the freedom of knowing that regardless of the angle of your perspectives, your rights to express them will be enforced rigorously.
All my life I have held the deepest respect for all artists. Your talents are surely a gift from God.
Again, a heartfelt welcome.!

Hey Shan, glad to see you here. I liked what you've done, especially "Left Behind." Do you work in pen and ink as well?

They dissapear because 'some people' think they 'know it all' or have all the answers. The problem with this is, if they did, then why are there still discussions going on about it? Your fine points explain it the best! I believe we all hold some part of the answers, that no one person knows it all. That what I know can be augmented and further explored. That what we all know together can be shared and explored in a civil manner befitting those men who fought and died and deserve better than what they are getting today. And I'm not one to say, lets discuss what someone did that was good, obviously something happened that wasn't good. To say that the truth should not be sought because of preferential honor does no justice to those who died when the truth is not known. Culprits and blame have been lain at the feet of many over the years, but the truth cannot be found by blanket accusation. The proof lay in the evidence. The evidence sadly is corrupted by what was said. And the words are all that is left after 130 years.
After Custer left Reno no one knows. But there were those who did know. Reno knew. Benteen knew. And those who rode with Custer to his death knew.
